UCP Giveaway #5 – “The Chicken and the Dog” autographed book and calendar
Last month, the Urban Chicken Podcast held a drawing for an autographed copy of the adorable children’s book, “The Chicken and the Dog” and a second place prize of a 2014 calendar of the book’s illustrations. These gifts were both generously donated to the UCP for the giveaway by Amanda Maxwell, the co-author of “The Chicken and the Dog” book series.
Two winners were drawn at random from all of the entries in the contest. The autographed book was won by Patrick Hallene of Ohio. Patrick incidentally, raises chickens as part of his permaculture project which you can follow at his website: http://www.littlecountryhouse.blogspot.com/. Laura Pollock of Arizona was the lucky winner of the second place prize of “The Chicken and the Dog” calendar.
Congratulations to both winners!
UCP Episode 039: Listeners Q & A Session #2: Chickens & Extreme Cold, Sprouted Grains & Soldier Fly Larvae and a Chicken Education Tip
Like most people, I love to receive mail (so long as it is not a bill or junk). Recently, I have gotten several messages from Urban Chicken Podcast listeners, who wrote to either pose a burning chicken question they have or to share a useful chicken tip. Today on the UCP, I am sharing three of these listener letters with the audience and answering questions such as “how cold is too cold for your chickens?” and “what do I think about feeding chickens sprouted grains and soldier flies?” and much more. I also talk about an email that provides me and the UCP listeners a great tip on a resource for quality poultry education classes and teachers. Continue reading

UCP Blog 009: When It Rains, It Pours – Why This Week’s Podcast Wasn’t Posted
Sometimes it seems that when you have difficulties in life, they can come raining down in an overwhelming deluge. I have been struggling with what I thought was a wifi driver issue with my computer. This past week my computer crashed — and it crashed hard.
At first, I struggled for a couple days to see if I could figure out and fix the issue on my own and still get this week’s episode out late. Nope. I have since enlisted the help of a professional, who is still working to fix my laptop.
At this point, I am still unsure if I will be able to save my computer or if I will be forced to buy a new laptop. Ugh. Sometimes I really hate computers! Until I hear back from the computer whiz who is working to save my current machine, I will be unable to produce and publish new episodes. Double Ugh!
I am very sorry for this inconvenience – I am very disappointed to be unable to deliver my weekly show as promised. I will try to get this issue fixed as soon as possible and us back on a regular our regular programming schedule. Please bear with me as I work out this computer problem. I appreciate you patience as I get this worked out.
